The incidents of burning the holy book of Islam, the quran, in Scandinavian countries doesn’t seem to stop. After Sweden, it was the turn of Denmark yesterday. A small group of protesters in Denmark set fire to a copy of the Quran, in front of the Iraqi embassy in Copenhagen, risking a further deterioration of diplomatic relations between the two countries. The protesters were from a group that calls itself “Danish Patriots.” The duo from this group stomped on the Quran yesterday and set it alight in a tin foil tray next to the Iraqi flag lying on the ground. The far-right, ultra-nationalist Danish Patriots had held a similar demonstration last week and had live-streamed the events on Facebook. After last week’s incident, Danish Foreign Minister Lars Rasmussen had condemned it as an act of “stupidity” by a few individuals. Shortly after the incident, Iraq’s foreign ministry called on the authorities of countries in the European Union to quickly reconsider so-called freedom of expression and the right to demonstrate.
