People gathered at the Department of Immigration and Border Protection in Sydney on Friday, November 3, to protest the treatment of more than 600 refugees living at Manus Island.

Greens senator Lee Rhiannon was at the demonstration to show solidarity for the protesters, who had barricaded themselves inside the lobby of the building, waving signs.

A day earlier it was reported about 600 men at the refugee processing centre had barricaded themselves inside and were resisting attempts to have them moved to another settlement on Manus Island after the original centre was closed on October 31.

“Six hundred people are so scared for their future and this is because of the Australian government,” Rhiannon said on Friday, “racist policies are having such a shocking impact.” Credit: Lee Rhiannon via Storyful
