Five police officers and three civilians were killed in a suicide car bomb attack in northeastern Nigeria on March 25.
Nigerian authorities say five highway patrol officers were killed March 25 in a suicide car bomb attack.
A police van was traveling just outside the city of Maiduguri when an explosive-packed car targeted their vehicle.
The militants then chased down the police vehicle and rammed their car into the police van before detonating a large amount of explosives.
The attackers' car was completely destroyed, and the police van was badly damaged.
All five officers were killed, as well as both attackers. Three civilians also lost their lives after being hit by shrapnel from the blast.
The attack came a day after the leader of Boko Haram, a Nigeria-based Islamic extremist terror group, released a video threatening further attacks.
Boko Haram is accused of killing thousands in its four-year-old uprising.
