German criminal Carlo Konstantin Kohl was arrested by police on Friday in front of the German Embassy in Bangkok. According to reports, Kohl had been on the run since May 15, when he managed to escape from security guards escorting him from Australia to Germany during a stopover in Thailand.
He first entered the bathroom wanting to take a shower but then used the opportunity to escape, the Bangkok Post reported. He walked from the east to the west wing of the airport and hid overnight in an electrical maintenance room. After that, he cut the electricity supply to a fire-exit alarm and escaped through the door. He left the airport with around $100 in Thai baht in his pocket.
He took a taxi downtown and once in Bangkok he entered a German restaurant and called his younger sister in Germany asking her to transfer some money to a bank account. After hiding in Bangkok for several days, he was arrested by police in front of the German embassy as he went to apply for a temporary passport. According to the Bangkok Post, Kohl is now being held at an Immigration Bureau office. He will be taken back to Suvarnabhumi airport today for a re-enactment of his escape.
