Live bait is key during the summer Gulf of Mexico tuna bite. It is not uncommon for a charter boat to load both livewells on their center consoles with 400+ baits. Because they know that they’ll be throwing 350 of those out as freebies to help bring the tunas up from 50-200 feet of water to their baits with hooks in them. We had a late start on this trip and only were able to put around 150 pieces of bait into the boat, but to our luck the fish were biting good and we did not need big bait bombs to get the fish to come up to the surface. @joevtfishing #offshore #yellowfintuna #fishing #louisiana #tuna #blackfins
